HP QC 10 - This database migration methodology has been performed on QC 10 but should work on other versions. Please let us know your results if migrating different versions.

Summary:

The HP QC project databases are being migrated from an Oracle database instance to MSFT SQL Server

Steps:

  1. Setup and configure an HP QC database administrator user account with the correct permissions on your new SQL Server database instance
  2. Log in to HP QC site administration, navigate to the databases tab and add your new database connection
  3. Verify that you have 2 databases in your HP QC databases tab and that you can ping both of them (The 1st DB should be your already existing Oracle database hosting HP QC and your second DB should be the new SQL Server you've just added.
  4. In HP QC Site Admin create a new domain to match the domains for all the projects you wish to migrate.
  5. Select the create new project option, then choose to create a new project by copying data from an existing project and make sure to choose "select all" when asked which entities and setting you wish to migrate.
  6. Go to the project repository of the new project and check the properties to validate that it matches the size of the original project repository.
  7. Repeat these steps for each project you wish to migrate.
