Applies To: HP ALM Business View Reporting Excel add-in  (Found in HP ALM 12.01)

Issue: Attempting to generate an HP ALM Business View Excel report produces the following error "The Excel report add-in is disabled or not correctly installed". The root cause could be, not having the business view Excel add-in installed or the configuration of the security settings of your Excel application. This error can be triggered by upgrading Excel versions and leaving the Excel security settings set to default.

NOTE: Be sure to verify you are using a supported version of Excel for the respective version of HP ALM and the business-view add-in.

Solution: The following steps will check the possible root causes as well as provide steps to fix the issue.

Step 1)  Re-install the HP ALM Excel Business View add-in. This can be done by navigating to the HP ALM Analysis module > Selecting a Excel Business View Report > Choose the configuration tab from the report view and then use the drop down menu to uninstall and reinstall the add-in.

Step 2) Open Excel and navigate to the Excel Trust Center settings: File menu > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center settings

We will be interested in verifying the security configuration for Add-ins and Macro Settings.

Step 3) Select the macro settings from the left hand navigation menu and ensure that Excel is set to "Trust access to the VBA project object model" and "Enable all macros". If these settings are grayed out then chances are your Excel settings are modified by a domain policy and you will need to request the changes.

Step 4) Verify the Trust Center Add-ins setting is not blocking access to any Add-ins by un-checking any options that may be selected.

Step 5) Navigate back to the main Excel Options window then select Add-Ins from the left hand navigation menu to view and manage Excel Add-ins.

You should see the HP ALM Business Views Excel Add-in under the Active Application Add-Ins. If you do not see the Add-in set to active, as shown in the screen shot below, then follow the proceeding steps below to activate the Add-in.

From the manage drop down selection list at the bottom of the page select COM Add-ins then click the Go button.

You will see a window that displays displays all available Add-ins. Select the check box next to the HP ALM Business Views Excel Add-in and then click Ok.

NOTE: check the "Disabled Items" drop down option and enable the addin there if the above steps fail.

Step 6) Once the Excel security configuration settings have been modified, be sure that they are saved and then exit Excel. Try and generate and Excel business views report to confirm the issue is resolved.
